Welcome!
The Developmental Science Network Zurich (DSN-ZH) is a Center of Competence involving researchers from different departments and faculties of the UZH. Common questions address developmental changes
- over the entire life span of an individual,
- in comparison to nonhuman species,
- at different scales (from molecules to whole societies) and, in the process,
- applying different scientific approaches (basic research, clinical research, translational research, applied research).
What is Developmental Science?
Generally speaking, Developmental Science refers to the scientific study of continuity and change across the entire life span of a human being.
Important and more comprehensive insights and knowledge about normative and atypical developmental processes can be gained by examining the development of non-human species and by considering different cultures and historical times. Developmental Science is therefore a highly interdisciplinary endeavor that examines the complexity of human development from psychological, educational, sociological, medical, biological, and broadly comparative perspectives.
Goals and vision
The central mission of the network is to provide a platform for
- connecting researchers from different disciplines and professional fields in the area of Development Science,
- the exchange of knowledge and expertise, theories, methods and perspectives,
- the sharing of data collections,
- the promotion of inter- and transdisciplinary research and teaching,
- the organization of joint scientific events and outreach activities,
- promoting the transfer of knowledge to schools, health and political institutions,
- thereby contributing to the solution of real-world problems and socio-political issues.
